Westbury Harriers Club Awards, May 2008

Unfortunately, we hadn't planned for exams moving 2 weeks earlier this year, but the weather was fine, if a little blustery.  Thanks to Trish Marilyn and Carol and for the barbecue, and to Colin Marrs for the photos.

Thanks also to newly elected 'Vice President' James Thie for being our guest of honour.  A Westbury Harrier as a youngster, James won the English Schools 1500m in 1997, was 9th in the European 1500m last year, and won the Gwent League held at Blaise in March.

The U15 Girls won the bronze medals

Proceeding to the individual club awards, winners were William Massey (U15), Wendy Tippett (V), (James Thie), Rick Wallis (V), Lynne Gallagher (SW), Hannah Alderson (U17), Heather Potten (U23), Anthony Glover (SM), Graham Clarke, James Massey (U11), Alex Massey (U13, Holly Sawyer (U11), Floren Scrafton (U15), Iris McNeill (U13)

Always competing with a cheery smile, Rebecca Barlow was 'Clubman' (should it be 'Clubperson' or 'Clubwoman'?) of the Year'

Event Coordinator Phil Court, who does all the behind-the-scenes organization for the Gwent League and Blaise Blazers (plus plenty of 'on-the-scene' work as well!) won the David Kay Committee Shield

World Indoor WM60 800m and 1500m champion Pat Gallagher won the 'Best Overall Female' award.

Finally, Lizzy Smith was judged Best Newcomer (Female)' ...

... and Bob Pringle was 'Best Newcomer (Male)'

Apologies to a number of people who couldn't make the evening due to exams: Schools International Rob Galt was Best Overall Male Athlete, but having had 3 GCSEs that day, and with Maths and English to come the next day, he had opted for a quiet evening in!  Others in the U17 'Team of the Year' were similarly affected.

Kirsty Thys was 'Most Improved Female Athlete'...

... while Graham Clarke was 'Most Improved Male Athlete'.

We kicked off with some overdue Gwent League medals - the Senior Women were this year's Gwent League Champions!
