Club Supper

The next club supper will be on Monday, December 15th at Coombe Dingle. The meal choice is vegetable pasta bake, fish and chips, chicken curry & rice. The price is £2.50.
Please see Sandra Bailey-Gard before the event to book a place.  Sandra can take bookings/cancellations up to 9pm on Sunday, December 14th on 0117 9505285.

London Marathon

The draw for the club places for the London Marathon will take place at the club supper on Monday, December 15th.
The club has 7 places available.
As in previous years, these will be distributed by draw to fully paid-up members who have been unsuccessful in their own attempts to gain a place through the London Marathon Ballot. To be eligible for the draw, athletes must provide evidence that they applied for and were rejected by the ballot, preferably a copy of their rejection letter. As for last year, preference will be given to those athletes who did not receive a club place last year - if you did, you will be eligible for the draw if we do not get 7 people entered in the draw.

If you would like to be entered for the draw, please contact Dean Thornton by email or by phone on 0117 9446165.

Raffle for trainers

It’s going to be a busy club supper as there will be a raffle for a pair of trainers on the night. Tickets will be £1.

Congratulations

Congratulations to club member Judy Vokes who got married recently and is now Mrs. Judy Knight.

Attention all parents

This is a note to all parents. Please do not leave your children at the club until their coach has been found – you cannot just leave them to fend for themselves!
Also, it is your responsibility to make sure that you’re there to pick your child up and that they have suitable warm and dry clothes to wear after training. The club is not a crèche and it’s not the responsibility of the club’s coaches to ensure that your child is looked after following the training session.
Thankfully, there is not a problem with vast majority of parents.

Women – be alert

You may have heard on the local news that there have been a few attacks against lone women in the Bristol area.
Whilst the chances of being attacked are extremely slim, please minimise the risk by following these simple rules:

-          if possible run with other people. Two people is better than running alone.

-          tell somebody your route beforehand and how long you expect to be out.

-          ditch the headphones. Do you really need to listen to music when you’re running? You’re far more aware of your surroundings without them.

-          stick to well lit routes, do you really need to head down that dark alley?

This warning is not meant to scare anybody, it really is to try and make sure that you’re as safe as possible when you’re out running.

Membership fees

As the end of the year draws ever nearer, it means that the time to renew your membership is close.
Membership fees are due on January 1st. You’ll be sent a renewal form around this time.

Please help the membership secretary double act of Sandra and Jullian Bailey-Gard by paying promptly.

Finally….

We hope that everybody has a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

What better way to get rid of the over indulgence than by going for a run? Take some time out to set some running goals for 2009, aim to break 50 minutes for a 10K, 1:30 for a half or just to beat so and so from the club!

Thank you all for being members of the club and making it such a good place to meet people and go for a run.
