NewsGwent League at Blaise Castle Westbury Harriers have the honour of hosting the next Gwent League fixture at Blaise Castle on Saturday, December 6th. The organisation is pretty much in place with only a couple of pieces of paperwork for Phil Court to chase. What we need is help during the day with various duties, namely:
Course
setting – morning Providing food to sell on the day - Pat Jeffries will be manning the food stand within the pavilion but needs some sandwiches made for the day. We’ll need 4-5 dozen which isn’t much at all between us all. Please help make this as successful a day as possible for the club by volunteering. See Neil Miller 0117 9514 097 if you can help. Gate money collectorOur assistant treasurer - Ifor Powell – will shortly be leaving the Bristol area for a little while for a trip and we’re looking for somebody to take charge of one of Ifor’s duties namely collecting the gate money on training nights. If you can help please get in touch with club secretary Geraint Torrington by email or phone 0117 9099609.
Christmas PartyThe club Christmas Party will be held on Friday, December 12th at St Bonaventure’s club, Bishopston. The evening will have the usual disco, a bit of food and as much drink as you can handle – responsibly of course – and a raffle. If you or the company you work for can supply any prizes for the raffle please get in touch with Trish Robson on a club night or by emailing social.secretary@westburyharriers.co.uk. Tickets are priced at £20 for a family ticket (max 3 children, £5 for each additional child), £10 per adult and includes entry into the raffle. They’re available from Trish and others on a club night.
Get well soonAaron Hockett who runs with Paul Smith’s group recently had a bike accident and spent a little time in hospital. Aaron, everybody at the club wishes you a speedy recovery.
Attention London Marathon RejectsThe club has as usual applied for club places in the London Marathon and are waiting to hear how many places we have been allocated. As in previous years, these will be distributed by draw to fully paid-up members who have been unsuccessful in their own attempts to gain a place through the London Marathon Ballot. To be eligible for the draw, athletes must provide evidence that they applied for and were rejected by the ballot, preferably a copy of their rejection letter. As for last year, preference will be given to those athletes who did not receive a club place last year. If you would like to be entered for the draw, please contact Dean Thornton by email or by phone on 0117 9446165. We’re hoping that the draw will take place at the December club supper which is on the 15th.
Edinburgh Marathon 2009A few club members are running the Edinburgh marathon in 2009. It takes place on Sunday, May 31st 2009 and is the fastest marathon in the UK as it features an elevation drop of over 50 metres.
If you’d like to join the other club members for this race, get in touch with Trish Robson or Jane Thornton.
New membersThe following people joined the club recently, please make them feel welcome. Mary
