The Bristol Half Marathon, 17th September 2006
The day turned out warmer than many would have hoped, but that didn't deter more than 50 Westbury Harriers from doing their thing around town. Unfortunately, the official results seem to have missed out a number of our athletes, and (conversely) there were quite a lot of Harriers that I didn't manage to catch (were you wearing your club vest? It is impossible to look out for faces in a crowd of 15000!) Here are those that I did catch, in no logical order (corrections, clarifications and abuse to Neil Miller):
| Recently turned 40, the vets' title at the Bristol Half Marathon has been a big target for Rod Jones, and come the big day he put in a worthy performance, being 1st V40 home in 1:09:37 (12th in the race). |

Jane McWilliams breezed around the course to finish 19th woman, in 83:30, while Robyn Edwards powered home in 26th place (88:03) |

Trish Robson was 2nd FV45 in 91:30. She also took the prize for the longest smile, only just missing the course record when it was judged to have turned into a grimace at 10.2 miles | |
| Malcolm White was 7th V40 home in 81:29, and Fraser Jamieson was 13th V40 in 83:26 (just pipping Jane on the line, the ungentlemanly so-and-so) | ||
| Paul Stuart (83:20) and Hamid Khan (86:50) were next to finish | ||
| Clive Attwood was 14th V45 (87:34), just ahead of Kevin Lopeman (88:55) |
John Collier (90:00, although he is sure it was 89:59) confirmed that the Welsh Castles Relays was no fluke - yes, he doesn't like the heat, but finished just ahead of a breakthrough run from Marcus Cookham (90:51) |
| Against all odds, Andrew Collier won the Z20 (Zimmer) category, and was also listed as the first crocodile to finish (this is reported to be subject to protest by another reptilian; who could that be?) | ||
Charles Hobbs (91:50) and Nick Taylor (92:14) |
| Mike Clark (92:25) was 21st V50 to finish, just ahead of his dad, Graham (92:42) | ||
Sorry about this photo, Gareth (Howard 93:27) - another photographer decided to stand in the way. |
| Keith Hill (94:51) managed to stay ahead of the serene Nick Shaw (96:11) | ||
Steve MacDonald (96:44) and Phil Court (97:29) |
Ruth Gibson (97:36) led home a posse of women |
| Tamsin Elson (1:40:36) hung on bravely, ahead of Ann Wyatt (1:43:50) | ||
Mike Hopkins (1:47:30) and Vanessa Smith (1:56:46) |
| 'Faces in the crowd' - you should be able to spot Laura Thom and Rob Emony | ||
Still going strong on the portway was Beatrice Scrimshaw |
Caron Payne and Robert Hawkins |
| I think this guy must have borrowed a number and crashed the race - he looked like he had barely run a mile coming into the finish (Patrick Makau, 1st, 63:37) | ||
